Saint Paul de Vence
Today I couldn’t get off my mind a little place in the South of France that my husband and I stayed almost six years ago called Saint-Paul de Vence. It was my first time in France and I was amazed at everything I saw, touched and smelt. France has gorgeous country sides, fantastic food and endless opportunities to drink good, cheap wine.
The small village of Saint-Paul de Vence is located the South-East region of France overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. This stunning medieval fortified village is protected by national heritage and truly is stepping back in time – after all it was originally fortified in the 13 Century. The village itself is one of the most intact medieval villages of the region, and if you are able to visit off season as we did, you can pretty much roam around tourist free and enjoy the cobble stone paths, beautiful old houses and tons of modern art galleries. Yes, St. Paul de Vence is famous for modern art galleries. My husband, a fan of modern art was absolutely thrilled to find out that many famous artists came to St. Paul de Vence and were inspired by the village. About 20 KM from Nice, St. Paul de Vence is a prefect day excursion. If you are lucky enough to spend the night, do so at the Villa St. Maxime, a fantastic boutique BNB just outside of the village gates with gracious owners and views that will take your breath away.
