Moving time again

Sigh. There was a time in my life where I moved so often I managed to fit everything I owned in six suitcases. That time was years ago. We have lived in a rented house for over 3 years, just enough time to start accumulating and settling. Now we have bought a house and somehow we need to put all those items in boxes and suitcases and move 20 minutes down the road.

That’s what really gets me about moving, whether it’s from Tokyo to Calgary – Halifax to New York – or Toronto to Mississauga. You still need to pack everything the same way. It’s still being boxed up, put in a van and moved from A to B.

I love having a dining table where I can entertain ten but it sure weighs a ton. I love my bed; it’s as comfortable as a Westin Heavenly but again, weighs too much. I wouldn’t give up my favourite items for anything but I sure hate lugging them around.

Perhaps this vagabond poet will settle into this home for a while, let the furniture make marks in the floor and the curtains get sun bleached over time. Perhaps I will save my vagabond ways for extended holidays and sabbaticals to the Far East. Or perhaps I'll just keep the boxes in the crawl space for next time ; )
