Winston surveying the road

Why is it that dogs love hanging their heads out car windows? My pug Winston spent the first year of his life in the back seat, latched in with a doggie seatbelt crying to get in the front. By age two he had suckered us into letting him sit on the passenger’s lap while city driving. Now just one month past his third birthday, he has discovered the wonderful feeling of hanging his head out the window while standing on my lap and scratching my arms and legs for additional leverage.

Why is it that Winston will stand on his two tiny pug legs, struggling to keep balance as his two front paws clutch the window ledge and I hold onto him for dear life. Could it be the cool air on his face, the millions of fantastic smells whizzing by, because he can better map the road ahead. Is it the fresh air – or simply because it’s fun? Regardless of the reason, he will fight tooth and nail to get as far out of the windows as he can. Perhaps we should look into a pair of Doggles, www.doggles.com/. Yes, there are riding goggles for dogs. Even pug dogs.

I wonder where he will be by age four – the rooftop – the drivers seat? It’s amazing what a soft, cute, loving creature can sucker you into it. God help me if I ever have kids.
