Ireland entry one
I recently returned from a trip to Ireland... here is my first memoir entry...
Ireland - entry one
The first time I visited Ireland I was 13 years old. The weather was grey; the taverns full of singing people; the Guinness free flowing; and all the men wore rugby shirts and eyed me with curiosity and lust. It was a dream. No really, it was a dream but one that stood clear in my mind long into adulthood. Ireland and I had an understanding - that she would promise to be everything I imagined – if I promised to not let go of a childhood fantasy.
I tried to visit Ireland several times. The first trip was planned with a girlfriend in University, who ended up not having enough money and cancelling. The second trip was going to be the beginning of a great love, only he broke my heart a month before we were meant to depart. The third time I planned a vacation for my husband and I but he opted for Costa Rica. Eventually I began to feel that my promise to the Emerald Isle was never going to come true. That was until my mother called and asked if I would be interested in a mother-daughter trip.....
