The Alchemist

I just finished reading a book called The Alchemist. I  heard so much about this book from friends, family and colleagues - and yet  it took me a long time to finally pick it up (it was first published in 1988) Now that I have finished it - I must recommend it as well - to everyone and anyone - to you.

The Alchemist is written by famous Brazilian author, Paulo Coelho. It follows the path of a poor, Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who leaves his homeland (Spain) and everything that is familiar to him in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids of North Africa. In his travels, he searches for his destiny, his reason for being, his life goal.

Coelho explains: "To realize one's destiny is a person's only obligation."

Unlike other books that have been life changing for me - The Celestine Prophecy; The Bhagavad Gita; High Fidelity; Catcher in the Rye etc... this book is an extremely easy read yet full of meaningful words and message.

If you are like me and wait for that perfect time to buy a book, waiting, waiting, till there is a weekend to curl up on the couch and truly enjoy the read - this is the book worth devouring.
