Veterans Week
This week as Canadians take a moment to buy a poppy and wear it over their heart in honour of the thousands of Canadian soldiers who helped to carve out the freedom that we so much enjoy, take a moment to try something a little different - like actually remember.
As a Canadian who grew up overseas I learned very little about Canadian history and took very little time to dwell on the men and women who fought for my freedom - including my own grandfather. However, during the brief 2 years I worked at Pier 21 National Historic Site, I heard hundreds of amazing stories from veterans, war brides and historians and quickly began to appreciate just how amazing, diverse and rich Canadian history truly is.
As we approach November 11- take a moment to read the Canadian Veterans Association's guide to 25 different ways you can pay tribute to Canada's Veterans and see what ways you can help remember.
